Enjoy Groton! Rich In History

Groton has a rich history from the early days of its settlement to the present. It's participation in the Revolutionary War made it vital to the birthing of our nation. Groton is situated on the Thames River and Long Island Sound, very near the Atlantic Ocean. Because of this location Groton has always been an important hub of activity and has a long maritime history, as well.

Groton's historical sites are little known treasures. Forts, museums, and pre-revolutionary era houses and buildings are open to the public.

These are a few of our interesting historical sites that you can visit.

Historic Groton Bank
Jabez Smith House
Fort Griswold

Many other historical points of interest are within half a day's drive from Groton.
