Fall Festival History

HISTORY OF GROTON'S FALL FESTIVAL

The Groton Festival has been in existence for three years. It was born from an idea of one of our Groton Business Association members to have a community wide event that would attract artists, crafters and businesses to display their wares at Poquonnock Plains Park in Groton. Now in its fourth year this event has grown dramatically. Thousands of people from the local area (and some from the not-so-local area) now attend. The festival includes a farmers market, a skateboard contest, a classic car show, a karaoke contest sponsored by a local radio station, the landing and takeoff of a Black Hawk helicopter (this is breathtaking), a band concert, several pieces of fire fighting apparatus including fire safety demonstrations to promote Fire Prevention Week and several food stations. We now have over 110 vendors consistently participating. Each year we have added at least one new activity. In 2009 there will be an aerial display by a local model aircraft club. The second Saturday in October is now unofficially considered Groton Fall Festival day. If you are interested in being a vendor at the festival, or for other general information, please click here.
